Detection of the gravitomagnetic clock effect

چکیده

The essence of the gravitomagnetic clock effect is properly defined showing that its origin is in the topology of world lines with closed space projections. It is shown that, in weak field approximation and for a spherically symmetric central body, the loss of synchrony between two clocks counter-rotating along a circular geodesic is proportional to the angular momentum of the source of the gravitational field. Numerical estimates are presented for objects within the solar system. The less unfavorable situation is found around Jupiter. PACS: 04.20

Effect of the 2nd degree and order geopotential coefficient on the Lense-Thirring experiment and on the gravitomagnetic clock effect

The impact of the mismodelling in the Earth’s geopotential coefficient C22 on the detection of the general relativistic Lense-Thirring and gravitomagnetic clock effects is investigated. The systematic error induced on the Lense-Thirring LAGEOS experiment amounts to almost 1%. Regarding the gravitomagnetic clock effect, the systematic error induced on the satellite’s azimuthal location is 1-2 or...

Nongravitational perturbations on the mean anomaly of LAGEOS type satellites and the gravitomagnetic clock effect

We calculate analytically the most relevant nongravitational perturbations on the mean anomaly of LAGEOS type satellites in order to investigate the constraints they pose on the feasibility of the proposed general relativistic gravitomagnetic clock effect. The gravitoelectric contributions to the proper times induced by the perturbations on the Keplerian mean motions of two counter-orbiting sat...

Satellite gravitational orbital perturbations and the gravitomagnetic clock effect

In order to detect the gravitomagnetic clock effect by means of two counter-orbiting satellites placed on identical equatorial and circular orbits around the Earth with radius 7000 km their radial and azimuthal positions must be known with an accuracy of δr = 10−1 mm and δφ = 10−2 mas per revolution. In this work we investigate if the radial and azimuthal perturbations induced by the dynamical ...

v 1 1 0 O ct 2 00 1 On the gravitomagnetic clock effect

General relativity predicts that two freely counter-revolving test particles in the exterior field of a central rotating mass take different periods of time to complete the same full orbit; this time difference leads to the gravitomagnetic clock effect. The effect has been derived for circular equatorial orbits; moreover, it has been extended via azimuthal closure to spherical orbits around a s...
